J.C. Roumain Cancer Assistance Fund

As part of the Foundation's focus on fighting cancer, the Foundation has established the J.C. Roumain Cancer Assistance Fund. The Fund provides small one-time financial gifts to families who have a family member fighting cancer, particularly terminal cancer. The gifts vary in size, but average $500 and generally do not exceed $1,000. The gifts are meant to assist the family pay pressing living expenses, such as housing payments and utility bills, as well as some medical expenses. We regret that we cannot fulfill every request. Applications will be considered based on demonstrated need.

Application Process: We have attempted to make the application process as easy as possible. Families can apply for the gifts directly or be nominated by a family friend. All applicants should fully complete the form below and submit it to manager@ochoafoundation.org. The form should include the following supporting documentation: copies of unpaid bills, a letter from the recipient's treating Oncologist describing the cancer and prognosis, any substantiating financial documents (such as bank statement, letter of employment or recent tax return). Although not required, the Foundation will also consider any letters of support from friends, colleagues or treating medical professionals. Please submit the application, along with supporting documentation, at the same time. Once submitted, the application will be considered promptly by our Board of Directors. Provided that it meets our funding requirements, the Foundation will generally inform the recipient within 14 days of receiving the application.
